Keanu Reeves dedicates 'John Wick 4' to late costar Lance Reddick

 Actor Lance Reddick, best known for his assisting work on the John Wick action film franchise, died last week at the age of 60, his publicist said. Reddick died suddenly of natural causes on Friday morning, according to a statement  by publicist Mia Hansen.

 His death came just days before the  March 24 release of the fourth installment in the John Wick series, in which Reddick reprized his role as a hotel manager named Charon, an ally of the title character, a professional assassin who was forced to retire Keanu Reeves. "We are deeply saddened and devastated by the loss of our dear friend and colleague Lance Reddick," wrote John Wick director Chad Stahelski and star Keanu Reeves  in a joint statement to Deadline.“He was an purely professional and a pleasure to work with him. Our love and prayers go out to his entire family. He will be greatly missed." 

The news site TMZ, citing law enforcement sources, said the artist was found dead at his home in the Studio City area of ​​Los Angeles  around 9:30 a.m.

 

 Reddick landed his first film role as Police Chief Cedric Daniels on the HBO crime series The Wire, set in his hometown of Baltimore. The show, which ran for five seasons beginning in 2002, has been widely hailed as one of television's greatest dramas for its brutal portrayal of urban combat, told from the perspective of  police, drug dealers and those caught in between. 

 

 In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, The Wire creator David Simon recalled Reddick as "an accomplished and dedicated professional collaborator, a beautiful soul and a friend. It's just disgusting and  too early for  us to know who knew and loved him about it.” 

 

 Tall, with a shaved head and a penchant for portraying humble but commanding authority figures, Reddick later played a similar role as a metropolitan police chief in the Los Angeles drama Angeles Bosch, a series on the Amazon Prime streaming service.

 

 He has also appeared in two series co-created by JJ Abrams, beginning with the fourth season  of ABC's Lost. The character was quickly killed off and Reddick joined the cast of Fringe, a Fox  series in which he played the head of  the FBI's paranormal investigation unit. Other TV movies include the HBO prison series Oz as undercover cop Johnny Basil, the Emmy-winning FX anthology series American Horror Story as a voodoo master named Papa Legba, and the upcoming Disney+ series Percy Jackson and the Olympians as The Greek God Zeus.


Film work alongside John Wick has included appearances in thrillers such  as Fallen Angel, Monster Party and Godzilla vs. Kong.  A classically trained pianist, Reddick attended the Peabody Preparatory Institute to study music, worked at the Walden School in the  music theory and composition summer program and finally earned a  degree in classical composition from the university &School of Music in Rochester. . In 2007, he released the jazz music 🎵 album Contemplations & Remembrances.

 

 A photo Reddick posted to his Instagram account the day before his death showed the smiling actor sitting on a sofa in his living room, surrounded by four  dogs. Actor Wendell Pierce paid tribute to his Wire colleague on Twitter, calling Reddick "a man of great strength and grace." and "the embodiment of class". "You left your mark here. RIP," Pierce said.
